Chairman
of the
Ways and
Means
Committee
Charlie
Rangel
has
disclosed
new
taxes on
small
business
starting
at a
gross
income
of
$280,000.

Port of
Oakland
The Port
of
Oakland
leads
the way
to
improve
air
quality:
Low-cost
financing:
On July
7, the
Port
Board
authorized
the
executive
director
to negotiate
and
enter
into a
financing
assistance
agreement
with
OneCalifornia
Bank to
provide
low-cost
financing
and
related
services
to
drayage
truck
drivers
and
companies.
OneCalifornia
Bank
will
provide
low-interest
loans to
truck
owners
and
companies
to pay
for
replacement CARB-compliant
trucks.
Stimulus funding
for
trucks:
The U.S.
Environmental
Protection
Agency
recently
announced,
the Bay
Area Air
Quality
Management
District
(BAAQMD)
was
selected
for $2
million
in
funding
to
retrofit
81
trucks
with
diesel
particulate
filters
and to
replace
22
dirty,
old
trucks
with
cleaner,
newer
ones
that
operate
at and
around
the Port
of
Oakland.
Certification
seminars
The
Chamber
and
Employers
Group
have
agreed
to offer
a series
of free
seminars
for our
members
that
will
offer
certification.
The
program
will
begin
Sept. 8
and run
weekly
through
Oct. 27.
The
Human
Resources
Generalist
Certificate
program
has
everything
you
need.
With a
focus on
the most
critical
issues
of HR,
this
series
better
prepares
those
newer to
HR to
effectively
handle
the
issues
they
face on
a daily
basis.
The
program
is
geared
to
individuals
who are
new to
HR (less
than
three
years of
experience).

City
parking
The City
Council
has
approved
a
50-cent
increase
in
metered
parking
rates in
Oakland,
which
raises
the rate
to $2
per
hour.
The
Council
has also
approved
an
extension
of the
parking
enforcement
time to
8 p.m.
These
new
rates
are
already
in
effect.

Measure C (hotel tax for
marketing and community
institutions) and
Measure D (Amend Kids
First funding), a vote
to OPPOSE Measure H
(corporate property tax
amendment) and NO
POSITION on Measure F
(Cannabis business tax

- The city's Community &
Economic Development
Agency (CEDA) is
inviting all Chamber
members to a
city-wide zoning update
from 10:30 a.m. to noon
at City Hall. The
session has been
tailored specifically
for small business
owners with particular
emphasis on sharing
information about the
city's ongoing effort to
update the zoning
regulations on major
commercial streets.
